During her conversation with ICC 100% Cricket Superstars, Amelia Kerr talked candidly about her greatest moments in her career to date as well as the significance of playing cricket with her sister.
Surprisingly, Kerr chose to compete against India in ICC events rather than her neighbor and opponent, Australia, for her favorite cricket challenge.
“I believe that participating in World Cups and facing India is a constant challenge since, no matter where they play, they always have a fan base behind them. And for them, Amelia stated on ICC 100% Cricket Superstars, “spin is key.”
Amelia kerr failed to pick up a wicket in her ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup first match against India in 2017, but she shone in New Zealand’s subsequent victory in the 2022 tournament, scoring a quick fifty and three-quarters. When facing up against India, she regarded spin as a formidable obstacle.
“I think it’s a great challenge to be able to play spin well, especially in sub-continent conditions,” Amelia continued. “And they have some really good players, so I think that’s a big match-up, and it’s always hard to play them.” Amelia kerr defeated Mithali Raj, the top player in India, during their 2022 encounter by hitting the batter in the air and getting her out of the game
“When you’re not picked is my favorite kind of wicket.” You outwitted someone at the gate,” she grinned. “And I suppose the wickets that mean the most are probably the ones that change the course of the game, of one of the team’s best players, and you kind of make a breakthrough with something special.”
Originally an all-round bowler, Amelia is now a consistent member of the New Zealand top order. When her coach instructed her to begin the batting, she was just 17 years old. She went on to hit the highest-ever Women’s ODI total of 232* against Ireland.
For Amelia kerr , the game was the one that made all the difference.I had never opened the batting before, but the coach informed me that I would be doing so now. At that moment, I was always the lower tier, so I just wanted to take advantage of the chance and do something exceptional,” the woman remarked. During the knock, Amelia continued to hit 31 fours and two sixes.
The boundary count’s propensity for fours reflected Amelia kerr style of play, as she considers herself more of a placement player than a power hitter. I’m probably not well-known worldwide for playing the power game.
Furthermore, she remarked, “It’s nice to bat with (experienced New Zealand batswoman) Sophie Devine and watch her blow the roof off the other end.” However, timing and positioning are important to me. Amelia kerr recalled her favorite athletic memory with her younger sibling, Jess, and described playing cricket with her as an incredible experience.
It’s incredible to represent your country alongside your sister. When we all sing the national anthem together, it’s a moment we kind of share every time. Something truly unique exists for us, Amelia kerr remarked.
There is a particular game that comes to mind, which was our home match against India following the series, in which we chased down 280 runs. “And that day, I hit a hundred and Jess scored the winning runs while I was batting in the middle of him.
” The sisters had missed one other’s companionship on multiple occasions despite playing for New Zealand for years, which is what made the India game special.Because of her injury and my mental health, we kind of had a couple tours apart,” she continued. “Therefore, it seemed like a very unique occasion for our family and ourselves.”
