Barely a year after creating history at Tokyo 2020, he created another history by winning a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships 2022 in Oregon, USA.

He made it to the final of Oregon 2022 with 88.39m in the qualification and won the silver medal with a best throw of 88.13m in the medal round.

At the same time, reigning world champion Anderson Peters won the gold medal by covering a distance of 90.54m. In the final, Peters crossed the 90m mark thrice and won the event with a throw of 90.54m.

He achieved the title of becoming the first Indian in history at the World Athletics Championships, win a silver medal. With this, he ended India’s 19-year long wait.

This is India’s second medal at the World Championships after long jumper Anju Bobby George won bronze for India at the world stage in Paris 2003.

World champion Anderson Peters did not participate in the event. The veteran Indian javelin thrower easily topped the table with a throw of 89.08m in his first attempt. This was the last meet of the men’s javelin throw in the series.With this stellar performance. He qualified for the Diamond League final and also secured his place for the World Athletics Championships 2023.

He became the first Indian athlete in history to win the Diamond League trophy by winning the Zurich Diamond League 2022 Final. The Indian veteran recorded a best throw of 88.44m to beat Tokyo 2020 silver medallist and 2016 champion Jakub Wadlech.

Reigning European champion Julian Weber of Germany finished third with a throw of 83.73m. He had qualified for his third Diamond League 2022 Grand Final after winning the Lausanne Diamond League and finishing second at the Stockholm Diamond League. Earlier, the Indian javelin thrower had won the gold medal at Jakarta 2018. This was the second gold medal for the Indian javelin thrower at the continental meet. Neeraj beat his fellow javelin thrower Kishore Jena. Kishore Kumar Jena won the silver medal with a throw of 87.54m.
