This is going to be the fourth Olympics for former captains Sreejesh and Manpreet. On the other hand, there are young players like Jarman preet, Abhishek for whom this is going to be their debut Olympics. Sanjay, Raj Kumar Pal, and Sukhjeet Singh would like to show a strong game in their debut Olympic Games.The mix of young and experienced players will definitely prove beneficial for India.
India has got a very balanced Group
The India hockey team has been placed in Pool-B. Apart from India, Pool-B has New Zealand, Argentina, Ireland, Belgium and Australia. Pool-A includes Netherlands, Germany, Britain, Spain, South Africa and host country France. If seen,
India should not have any problem in winning matches against New Zealand, Argentina and Ireland. But to win against Belgium and Australia, it will have to perform at its best.
The Indian team will start its campaign with a match against New Zealand on 27 July. After this, the team will face Argentina on 29 July. Then India will face Ireland on 30 July, Belgium on 1 August and Australia on 2 August. That is, if the Indian team wins even the first three matches, then its chances of going to the next round will be very strong.
