“R Sridhar Joins Afghanistan Cricket as New Assistant Coach”

The former Indian cricketer, R Sridhar has been appointed as Afghanistan’s assistant coach ahead of the three-match ODI series against South Africa, and the Test match against New Zealand.

R Sridhar, who was earlier trainer with India’s fielding unit, has been appointed as assistant coach of Afghanistan senior men’s team. Sridhar will be in the squad for the next three ODIs against South Africa and one and only Test match against New Zealand.

A contingent contract is one which if he performs well it becomes permanent otherwise not.It will be worth saying some words about Sridhar: the Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced his appointment as the assistant coach of Afghanistan for one-test match against New Zealand and three-ODI against South.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board has agreed on having a long term working relationship with Sridhar and they expect him to deliver in his contracted capacity.

He is a level-3 qualified coach who was the assistant coach of the India U-19 national team and a spin bowling coach. Sridhar served as an assistant fielding and spin bowling coach of the National Cricket Academy of India from 2008 until 2014.

R Sridhar, the erstwhile cricket player, represented Hyderabad in the domestic cricket from 1989–1990 to 2000–2001. Starting from the year 2001 he has been involved in coaching of the game of cricket

He aggregated 574 runs in 35 first-class games and 69 in 15 List A games for Hyderabad. Also, he scored 14 List A displacements and 91 first-class scalps.

In the UAE at the 2014 U-19 World Cup, he was an assistant coach of the India U-19 team. He was appointed as the senior Indian team’s fielding coach in August 2014 and his contract was again extended.

T Dilip began his tenure as the head coach in the year 2021 after Sridhar left to take up the masters coaching assignment with Rahul Dravid.

Apart from being a player, he has worked as head coach of Andhra cricket team and Tripura Cricket Association and as fielding coach for Kings XI Punjab.

He also captained California Knights to third place in the US Masters T10 competition the previous year. Among all the recent tournament experiences that Sridhar has been part of as a member of the Indian team coaching set up both for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cups and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups, he has leant the most.

Afghanistan had planned on having R Sridhar as their head coach for a longer period although Sridhar signed short term coaching contract with the team.
